Tammy, owner of SPACES remodel by design, is an industry expert and has been designing since she was a young teen… not kidding. Tammy was commissioned to do her first professional interior design project at just 15 years old in Southern California. Since then she has designed in both residential remodels and new construction for top national builders.

Last year, Tammy installed Hallmark Floors Luxury Vinyl in 16 of 18 remodel jobs, including kitchens, baths, additions and whole house projects. “People want to be able to live on their floors without missing out on the beauty associated with hardwoods,” Tammy said. In her New Mexico market, she finds luxury vinyl to be especially important for country living or families with kids and pets.

When asked if she found our floors to be family friendly, Tammy shared a story in response. “I have a client right now who has two little children and big dogs so luxury vinyl just made sense. He insisted that he needed hardwood flooring in order to get the look that he wanted, but I truly felt that luxury vinyl was a better fit. I showed him several different brands and his top three selections were all Hallmark Floors. He had no idea that luxury vinyl could look so good!”
The Most Important Element
Tammy believes that every space is different. Whatever element is the most important to the client becomes her most important element in the design. “So often, that element is the flooring,” she explained. “I talk with my clients in order to discover what features are critical and then I make that the anchor for my design.”
One example that she shared was a recent job where the client had Saltillo paved floors. They saw their neighbors remodel with Hallmark Floors Castle & Cottage floors that SPACES had completed a few months prior and that became their goal, too. “Castle & Cottage dictated the rest of the design.”

When Tammy began using luxury vinyl, more than fifteen years ago, it was not available in the residential marketing. “I was having to take it out of the commercial setting and personally install it because I couldn’t find residential installers,” she said. “My choices were very limited. Now that it has gravitated to the residential side consumers demand it. It’s all about practicality – designers want to please their customers and provide both the look and durability that they want. Tammy, a Southern California native, works in cities all over the Southwest including Santa Fe, Denver and Scottsdale. She is based out of New Mexico, but originally began designing in California at just 15 years old. Tammy has worked in the strongest home building markets in the nation from Southern California to Florida in both remodeling and new home construction. In her previous corporate life, Tammy spent most of her time in corporate design management. During that time she found there to be few interior designers specializing in remodels.
